Borrow My Watts Inc. (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the Borrow My Watts platform. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable Ontario privacy law.
Information we collect
- Account information: name, email address, and phone number provided at registration.
- Profile information: vehicle details (for drivers), charger details and location (for hosts).
- Payment information: processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers.
- Location data: approximate location to show nearby chargers. Precise location used only when you actively use the map.
- Session data: charging session start/stop times, energy delivered (kWh), and transaction records.
- Communications: messages sent between hosts and drivers through the platform.
- Device information: IP address, device type, and operating system for security and analytics.
How we use your information
- To provide and operate the Borrow My Watts service
- To process bookings and payments
- To send transactional notifications (booking confirmation, session updates, receipts)
- To detect and prevent fraud
- To improve the platform through aggregate analytics
- To comply with legal obligations
Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
- With the other party in a booking (hosts see driver first name and vehicle; drivers see host first name and charger address)
- With Stripe for payment processing
- With AWS for platform infrastructure (Canada region)
- With law enforcement when legally required
Data retention
We retain account data for as long as your account is active. Transaction and session records are retained for 7 years for tax and legal compliance. You may request deletion of your account at any time; we will delete personal data within 30 days subject to legal retention obligations.
Your rights under PIPEDA
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Withdraw consent for non-essential uses
- Request deletion of your account and personal data
- Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
